Groundbreaking ceremony held for Medford Food Co-op
After exceeding the necessary funds that Medford Food Co-op was attempting to collect through cash and pledged funds, Batzer Construction will now begin constructing the new 9,000 square foot building. The funding goal that was needed for this new project to proceed was $500,000 and was finally celebrated on the last week on August 2010. This Medford Food Co-op celebration was held on the hottest day in the summer and was promised to guarantee 25 to 30 jobs for people in the surrounding community.
The public ceremony was to honor the start of the beginning of the new construction that was going to be taking place at 945 S. Riverside Avenue. This ceremony has proved to many that the community is able to come together to provide funds and assist in building new buildings and assisting buildings in creating a something that is guaranteed to be beneficial for the society.
Batzer Construction has currently agreed with Medford Co-op to do $250,000 for renovations only on the buildings. This was an easy compromise because Medford has surpassed the needed funds and has raised $650,000 which came not only from the community and local citizens but as well from local businesses. This was about four percent of the raised funds that Medford has accomplished.
After beginning the construction project for Medford, the expected completion is by the end of the 2010 year. The approval of the building permits unfortunately have not been as quick as expected. Medford and Batzer are still unsure when the completion of the project will be done since they still need to acquire the necessary approval from the city and begin as of late November. Many are concerned whether there is any construction is going on to the building and co-op but Jim Sims, co-op president, has assured people that the renovation is taking place inside and the interior is entirely dismantled.
