Planning a Child’s Bedroom

Decorating a room for a child can be fun. For parents it gives a chance to re-create some of their own childhood fantasies. If the children are older they can make the decision together with their parents about colours, patterns, furniture and the theme for the room. Do not run to the paint shop straight away until you have planned the room properly. Your goal should be to create a room that is stimulating and soothing. When planning, create a budget for the room and also a timescale. Also remember when you design the child's room that he or she will be doing more than just sleeping there. The room will be used for studying, playing, reading and listening to music. Try to accommodate all of these functions when designing the room. You will not then have to redecorate the room for many years.
After you have designed and planned the room the next decision to make is whether you will do the work yourself or get it done by someone else. Before you decide you should ask yourself the next few questions.
How extensive is the job? If it is just a face-lift you will probably be able to handle it. If special skills are needed such as electrical work or putting in a build-in wardrobe, then leave it to the professionals.
Think about how much time you have to commit to the project. If you are doing a complete makeover of the room it could take several weekends.
Have you ever done this kind of work before? Are you patient enough and enjoy physical work?
